As usual the example given by Sri Velukkudi Krishnan was very endearing

Vanara sena is building bridge across the Indian Ocean to reach Lanka. The monkeys as groups of fours carry huge boulders and drop them in the water. The squirrels wish to do the cementing job and they drench themselves in the sea, run to the shore, roll on the sand so that a good quantity of sand sticks to their bodies and then come and use the sand to cement the boulders. Rama is watching this. In between, the squirrels try to order the monkeys around to work faster. Hanuman sees this and asks the squirrels why they are ordering around on top of coming in the way when monkeys are working busily. One squirrel boldly replies, “yes we are the ones to order as we are the masons doing cement work and the monkeys are the labourers carrying boulders”. Hanuman sees the squirrel’s dedication and says, Rama karya will be done very easily with such help

This morning's episode of Bharathathil Dharmam was another thought provoking one.

It was about "Mathrudevo Bhava, Pithrudevo Bhava, Aacharyadevo Bhava"

Mathrudevo Bhava, Pithrudevo Bhava

One must take care of one’s parents irrespective of whatever complaints one has about them. Even if the parents are at fault, it is one's duty to be in touch with them regularly (in case they are not staying with you). Do not interfere with their day-to-day activities but ensure you are there for their support whenever necessary. This is applicable not only to one's parents, but also parents-in-law.

For "Aacharyadevo Bhava" Sri Krishnan gave a very cute example

We have to offer what we like to God, but what we offer to the Guru has to be what the Guru likes. You have to ensure that you do not give the Guru something that he does not like.

Thirukkannapuram Temple

Thirumangai Azhwar fell in love with Thirukkannapuram Perumal and requested a flamingo (Naarai - நாரை) to go as a messenger to Perumal to inform Azhvar's love for Him. When the Naarai agrees to go as a messenger, it becomes Azhwar's Guru, so Azhwar has to offer the Guru what the Guru likes. The Naarai asks him, “If I go as a messenger what will you give me?” Thirumangai Azhwar promptly replies, “I will catch a big fish and offer it to you” as fish is a flamingo's favourite food. It may sound very strange that how somebody as pious as the Azhwar can go fishing, but for the sake of Guru everything is allowed!

Yesterday’s episode of “Bharathathil Dharmam” by Sri Velukudi Krishnan on Vijay TV was very enlightening. For the past three days Sri. Krishnan has been talking about Vidhuran’s advice to Dhirtharashtran on giving Pandavas a share in the kingdom.

Dhirtharashtran sends Sanjayan as his messenger to the Pandavas. Sanjayan returns to Hastinapura late in the evening and tells Dhirtharashtran that he is too tired to talk and would give all the details of his trip the next day.

An anxious Dhirtharashtran is unable to sleep and calls Vidhuran for guidance expecting the latter to talk only in his favour. Vidhuran being the incarnation of Dharmaraja asks Dhirtharashtran point blank if he has usurped another’s property that he is unable to sleep. That Dhirtharashtran avoids Vidhuran’s question and all this lead to the battle of Kurukshetra is another story. But the example Sri Krishnan gave for usurping one’s property was classic. Every human is a Jeevatma and is part of God – the Paramatma. We are HIS property – a part of HIM. But all the time we see ourselves as separate from the Paramatma thereby stealing HIS property! We must think that all of us are HIS parts and HIS property.

Sri Krishnan also cited an example of a devotee praising Lord Krishna “Why people are calling you a thief who stole butter in Gokulam which belonged to you (as everything belongs to Paramatma), when in reality we are the thieves separating Paramatma from Jeevatma”
